April Club Run – Elk Mountain / Dalton Canyon Run
April 28 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
April’s run is a trip to the Pecos Mountains northeast of Santa Fe. First we will go to the peak at Elk Mountain and then to Dalton Canyon. This is a long scenic route with many photo opportunities.
Santo Domingo (I-25 exit # 259) is the perfect place to stop and top of your gas to ensure you will have enough fuel for the day.
Meeting will be at at Griego’s Market and Liquors, 90 NM-50, Pecos, NM 87552
DRIVERS MEETING AT 8:45, rolling out at 9:00.
We will be heading up to Elk Mountain first, with a trip through Dalton Canyon to follow. Those who need to head back to Albuquerque after Elk Mountain can easily do so, while those who want to continue to Dalton Canyon are welcome. We will pass the Dalton trailhead when headed to Elk Mountain and loop back to Dalton.
This is an “all day” trip. The ride from Albuquerque to the trailhead is a little over 1.5 hours so plan accordingly.
This is a stock friendly run. There will be some mud. The final ascent up to Elk Mountain is a little steep but a stock Jeep in 4 wheel low will do just fine. Temperatures on the peak can be cold with high winds so dress accordingly and be prepared for colder temps.
